Overstock

Overstock is a public company founded in 1997 under the name D2: Discounts Direct and later in 1999 it was renamed in Overstock. Overstock.com is an on-line retailer. The tagline of the company is: "Your online outlet!" The company is headquartered in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. This on-line E-commerce marketplace offers a wide range of different products. Overstock.com completed the public offering of its shares in 2002 but disappointed its shareholders with 6% decrease in sales.

Besides Overstock direct retail sales, the company has also offered a raw of on-line auctions on the Internet sites since 2002.

    CONSUMER


    All the markets that exist consist of two parts connected with a link. These parts are the retailers and consumers. As for the link, so it may be everything whatever has some value - goods, for example appliances, cosmetics, electronics, entertainment, and furniture, or services, wireless, satellite connection, pedicure, and the like. Retailers carry the responsibility for the functionality of the market. Consumers refer to individuals or households that use goods and services generated within the economy.

    The concept of a consumer is used in different contexts, so that the usage and significance of the term may vary. Whatever context is chosen, in order to maintain the balance on the markets consumers have to be satisfied. Consumers are the moving force of every market. They determine what product is to be manufactured, set the demand on this or that type of goods, define the trends in the sphere, as well as cause the changes on the market. Consumers are people who accept the manufactured goods in exchange for something worthy, at the present time, - for the money. At the very beginning, barter defined people as consumers and retailers. Later on the system developed and the distinction between former and later became more obvious. Today, in the world of incredible competition consumers are kept satisfied. A retailer who loses its client will not survive. That is why consumers are like warning signs. If the quality of goods and services worsens, the warning signs come in form of complaints and negative feedbacks.
